Review: People by Peter Spier

Every year I start the school year off with reading People by Peter Spier. I definitely encourage any teacher to look it up, buy it, and do the same! It is a picture book and is quite fascinating! It shows how everyone is different – cultures – colors – sizes – noses – eyes – foods – celebrations and so on.

It is such a wonderful way to start discussions on how we are different – yet the same. We discuss beauty and how subjective this is based on where you live, perceptions etc. We then share similar examples about ourselves: favorite foods, celebrations, and our family. This book will be a staple piece in your classroom library and a reminder of how each of us is special in our own way!
